I arrived in Geneva yesterday and noticed a very odd sight above the jet d’eau in Lake Geneva – a giant soccer ball floating high above the jet and the Geneva skyline.

Geneva is one of the host cities for the Euro2008, the European Union soccer cup. There are soccer fans from all over Europe in Geneva now, here to see the games played in Geneva. Tonight people were driving through the city honking their horns in excitement at Italy beating France in today’s game.
There seem to be more fans of Italy in Geneva than of France – at least according to the flags hanging out of people’s car windows! Soccer reflecting a bit of Geneva’s history with France? Regardless, people are excited about soccer, any soccer game, and soccer is the talk on the streets now. A fun time to be here for our summer program!
Some students have arrived today, and others are arriving tomorrow. More posts to come soon!
